Bluebird Retirement Community in London, Ohio, came alive with joy as generations young and old gathered to celebrate fall together during Bluebird’s annual Trick or Treat—a cherished local tradition. Inter-generational bonds filled the air as residents set up a “treat trail,” their tables and laps overflowing with candy, snacks, drinks, toys, and—most importantly—smiles.

From newborns to centenarians, everyone joined in the festivities. “This event is a win-win,” said Executive Director Stoey Stout. “It’s a win-win for our residents and the community. They get to see the children dressed up, socialize, and the kids get candy.”Resident Ms. Becky delightedly handed out treats to a small puppy, her face lighting up with excitement.

The annual event drew hundreds of local children in colorful costumes—Skye from Paw Patrol, soldiers, kitty cats, and clowns among them. Dessie Hogston brought her two sons, who proudly showed off their goodies. “My favorite is Swedish Fish or Sour Patch—but this is so fun! Look what I got!” one exclaimed, holding up a festive rubber duck. One brother dressed as a fireman, while the other wore a glowing LED mask—and beneath that mask, an even brighter smile.

Hay bales lined the walkways, pumpkins were tucked into cozy corners, and friendly ghosts peeked out from shelves. Heather and Rodrigo Medeiros took advantage of the charming fall décor to snap a photo of their little puppy, taking a brief break from the exciting treat trail. Every detail reflected the warmth and creativity of the community, setting the perfect backdrop for laughter and celebration.

The fun wasn’t just for the kids—staff and community members also embraced the spirit of the evening. Employees donned creative costumes, passing out treats and sharing laughter with residents and guests. Parents and grandparents mingled with neighbors, reminiscing about their own childhood Halloweens while enjoying the music, decorations, and lively atmosphere.

The event was a tremendous success, showcasing the warmth and togetherness that define London—a joyous portrait of a community spanning generations, from babies to centenarians, celebrating side by side. Bluebird hosts events year-round to welcome the community and provide meaningful social opportunities for its cherished residents. This fall celebration once again proved that at Bluebird, everyone—young and old—is part of one big family.
