Deer Creek State Park Rich VanHorn Trailhead

See how the leaves change from week to week, on the Rich VanHorn Trail. VanHorn is a 1-mile trail that is mostly wooded. This trail has a view of the lake, and it encircles a pond. Enclosed shoes are required. Please wear appropriate gear for the weather, water and a snack recommended.

Park at the Deer Creek Lodge & Conference Center. Make a left turn into the lot, the trailhead is to the right of the courts. The naturalist will be waiting at the picnic tables by the trailhead.

Safety Day

Deer Creek State Park Campground

EMT’s from local Life Flight will give tours of the helicopter, South Central Power Company will have demonstrations on the dangers of electricity, Tri-County EMS, Mt. Sterling Fire Department, ODNR Officers with a K9, ODNR Wildlife Officer, State Highway Patrol, Pickaway County Sheriff.

Hawkview Meadow Evening Hike

Oct. 17; 7-8 p.m.

Deer Creek State Park Campground

Come hike the Hawkview Meadow Trail with the Naturalist. Hawkview Meadow trail is a ¾ mile loop that goes past Clarks Run creek. This trail has some hills, with wooded and meadow areas. Enclosed shoes are required. Please wear appropriate gear for the weather, water and a snack recommended. Flashlights are useful to have just in case. Park at the campground lot. Meet the naturalist at the Nature Center.

Beginners’ Archery

Oct. 18; 3-4 p.m.

Deer Creek State Park Nature Center

Come out and try your shot at archery! All equipment will be provided. Fun for the whole family! A liability waiver signed by an adult and enclosed shoes are required for participation. Must attend safety brief at the start of program. Meet the Naturalist at the Nature Center.

COSI at the library

Please bring lawn chairs for seating. This event will happen rain or shine with the exception of thunder. 1-2 p.m. indoor activity, 2-2:30 p.m. COSI activity table, 2:30-3 p.m. COSI show!

Halloween Campout

Deer Creek State Park Campground

Friday evening is the kickoff to this annual event with a Fish Fry provided by the Friends of Deer Creek. Be sure to have your campsite decorated by Friday evening for the judging to be begin around 7:30pm. Saturday’s activities included but not limited to Craft Show, Hayrides, Pumpkin Carving/Painting contest, Pumpkin pie eating contest, Old-fashioned Beans and Cornbread, and Trick or treating.
