More troopers to patrol Labor Day weekend
As Ohioans prepare to celebrate Labor Day weekend, the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) will be holding a media availability to share enforcement plans, crash statistics and safety reminders aimed at preventing alcohol-and-drug-related crashes on Ohio roadways. This weekend also marks the final days of the 2025 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign.
This is a timely opportunity to help inform the public about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving – particularly during the Labor Day holiday when impaired driving crashes tend to spike.
Throughout the weekend, drivers may notice a higher number of troopers and other law enforcement officers on the roadways in an effort to promote traffic safety by stopping impaired driving. These additional enforcements are, in large part, funded by OTSO grants.
In 2023, alcohol was a factor in 30% of all traffic fatalities nationwide, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Franklin County has the highest number of impaired fatal and serious injury crashes in Ohio.
